Torres and Atletico: the love affair in numbers

Fernando Torres has announced that he will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, putting an end to his time at his boyhood club. We take a look at the stats from his time at the 'Rojiblanco'.

'El Niño' has played 11 seasons at Atletico, Between his two spells at the club he has amassed 393 appearances for the club, scoring 126 goals in total.

In the games he featured in, the balance of results is as follows: 186 wins, 101 draws and 106 defeats. These numbers could rise, if/when Diego Simeone decides to give the forward game-time before the end of the season. His time at the club isn't over just yet.

Torres hasn't had such great success against Real Madrid, however. In his 21 games against Atletico's biggest rivals, the forward has only managed three goals, two of which came in one game. Just before moving to Liverpool he scored the third, in a league game.

Carlos Garcia Canterero gave him his first team debut, and Diego Simeone will be his last coach at the club. In between these two he has been managed by Luis Aragones, Gregorio Manzano, Cesar Ferrando, Carlos Bianchi, Javier Aguirre, Pepe Murcia, first in the Vicente Calderon and now the Wanda Metropolitano.

Torres makes it into Atletico's top 10 La Liga goalscorers, having scored 99 goals in Spain's top league. His tally is only bested by Adrian Escudero (150), Luis Aragones (123), Francisco Campos (120) and Jose Eulogio Garate (109).

With regards to league appearances for for the club, the forward comes in at tenth, with 274. Abelardo Rodriguez, on 401, leads this table. Torres could rise a place in the table, but he would have to play all the remaining games of the season.

The Spaniard made history by scoring Atletico's 4500th goal in La Liga last year. It came on February 4, against Leganes. Interestingly, Torres' Atletico debut was against Leganes. Poetic.
