Top flight clubs eye Kidderminster's Ed Williams

The 23 year old was delivering pizzas in order to scrape a living merely a year ago, but after being signed by Kidderminster Harriers in the summer, the midfielder has taken the National League North by storm, and has put some of the country's top clubs on high alert. 

Williams has scored 10 goals in 14 games for Kidderminster so far this campaign, and as such, there are rumours that a number of Championship and Premier League clubs are interested in signing the player. 

Among the names being linked to the promising midfielder are Leeds United, Derby County and Aston Villa; three teams that are currently in the second division but have aspirations to be in the top flight by the end of the current season. 

Williams was called up for the England C squad to face Estonia last month, and has continued to go from strength to strength during his maiden season as a semi-professional footballer. 

The midfielder recently signed up with football agent John Morris of Key Sports, who also has former non-league Jamie Vardy and Joe Lolley on his books. 

Now, after joining Kidderminster from Gloucester City in the summer, and forcing his was into the starting lineup, Williams seems to be destined to hit the lofty heights of the Premier League before long. 

Although Williams began his career with Cheltenham Town, he had to drop into non-league football in order to toughen up and develop physically into a better player. 

Williams has spoken of his journey and aims for his future in football, stating: "At the time I felt I wasn't given a fair chance as a pro but I know now that I wasn't ready as I physically hadn't matured yet. Everyone develops at different stages and I feel I'm only going to get better now."

He concluded: "Ultimately the aim is to get back into the Football League yes. I feel like I'm in a good place right now, more hard work has to be done and playing consistently well this season, maybe the opportunity might come along."
