We all know the phrase, 'eyes bigger than your belly' well this is a big problem in the football world and for the clubs that spend ridiculous amounts of money on transfers without thinking first. Here are some of those transfers that didn't end as well as they'd hoped.

Anthony Martial

Manchester United put 80 million euros on the table for Martial. Louis Van Gaal needed to take out a lot of cash for this footballer. He was the youngest footballer at the time, aged 19, to be paid the highest transfer fee. But this young player still has a lot to learn to and to show.

Andy Carroll

English forward Carroll definitely didn't stand-out on the pitch. He scored a few goals for Newcastle and then Liverpool offered him a whopping transfer deal of 40 million euros. They paid him more than they paid for Luis Suárez.

Mateo Kovacic

Real Madrid managed to find a space for this Croatian player in their team. Florentino paid 35 million euros for the footballer that definitely didn't show himself to be worth that price.

Denilson

Denilson's name definitely must be painful for Seville to hear. Real Betis paid 33 million euros for this striker that didn't score any goals. The legendary Denilson went to Greece and then to Vietnam before he retired.

Hulk

Zenit didn't hesitate to pay the huge quantity of 60 million euros for this hunk of muscles. It must be said that they could have paid a lot less for the same results.

Robinho

This player's name must give Manchester City the shivers. 'The Citizens' paid 43 million euros to Real Madrid for what resulted in more of a name than a player, and he had almost no presence in the team. He is now playing in China.

Fernando Torres

Spanish striker, Torres, got lucky when Abramovich offered him 53 million euros for his services. However, it was all over quickly, when he was sent back to Atletico de Madrid.
