The Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen opened up to the possibility of a move to play for another team next season, if it is for the best and added that Real Madrid would be his ideal destination.

"I feel like I'm at a time in my career when maybe I want to try something new. If I leave, I hope it will be to improve," he said  at the training camp of the Danish team.

Eriksen also said that playing for the Spanish giants would be a "step up" in his career. "For this to happen, Madrid need to call Tottenham and say they want Christian." The Danish superstar said.

Eriksen does only have on year left on his contract, meaning he'd be allowed to leave for free at the end of next season, meaning Spurs are looking to either tie the Dane to a new contract or sell him and replace him this summer.

The midfielder showed his "most profound" respect for Tottenham, having spent the previous 6 years at Tottenham since joining from Ajax, and that time culminating in a Champions League final. He also made it clear that it would not be a "negative" thing to stay at Spurs either.

"I hope everything clears up over the summer, that's the plan. In football you never know when it's going to happen, it could happen at any time. It would be best for everyone if it happened as quickly as possible, but in football things take time." he declared.

The speed in which the situation will be resolved depends on how Spurs President, Daniel Levy deals with the situation, and if the club receive an offer for one of their star players that they deem to be appropriate. However, according to 'El Confidencial', Tottenham do not plan on allowing Eriksen to leave this summer as they look to continue to build for the future.

"It's all going to depend on what options there are. If nothing interesting appears, why not stay at Tottenham? To sign a new contract with the club will depend on the conditions." The midfielder says.

At Real Madrid there is an ongoing debate about whether the Danish international is the right man for the job, with Zidane supposedly preferring to sign the French international, Paul Pogba.

Eriksen is training at the moment with the Danish National side, as they prepare for their upcoming matches in Euro 2020 qualifiers, after having an extra 2 days off after the Champions League final.
