After being stretchered off injured in the 43rd minute against Valencia on Saturday, 2018 World Cup champion Thomas Lemar suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg.

Thomas Lemar is suffering from a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg, Atletico Madrid announced on Sunday after the player underwent tests earlier in the day.

The Frenchman will therefore have to undergo surgery, which will keep him off the pitch for between four and six months, although the Spanish club prefers not to give a timeframe before surgery.

What is certain is that the former Monaco man will be out of action for several months.

"Thomas Lemar suffers an Achilles tendon rupture. Our player will undergo surgery. All the best Thom, we wish you a speedy recovery!," wrote the Madrid side on his official Twitter account.
