Carlo Ancelotti was convinced that Unai Nunez's knock on Jude Bellingham inside the box in Real Madrid-Athletic should have been reviewed. "This is football today. I think Marcelino agrees with me," he said about the Villarreal coach's earlier complaints.

Real Madrid's Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti was critical of the VAR's performance in the duel against Athletic Club at the Santiago Bernabeu, claiming a penalty not given to Jude Bellingham.

"This is football today," lamented the coach at a press conference after Real Madrid's stoppage-time winner against Athletic thanks to a 93rd-minute winner from Fede Valverde.

"I think that, in the goal disallowed to Vinicius, there is no doubt because it is automatic. What is not is that the VAR did not call the referee to check a possible penalty on Bellingham. Modern football," he opined.

"I think Marcelino agrees with me," he added in reference to the Villarreal coach who was also upset by an action that hurt his team in the draw against Real Sociedad in La Liga matchday 32.
