Legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn was known for being a fierce competitor, as these quotes from him clearly demonstrate.

Following a couple of meetings between the two sides in 2000 and 2001, fate paired Real Madrid and Bayern Munich together once again in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2002.

In that game, Bayern recovered form conceding first to claim a 2-1 victory in the first leg, leading to euphoric scenes as the German side's players thought their place in the last four was secured.

"If we put pressure on them they will shit themselves," claimed Hasan Salihamidzic, adding further fuel to the fire ahead of the second leg.

However, Oliver Kahn took things one step further, replacing optimism with absolute certainty. "They wouldn't score twice against be at the Bernabeu even if I were drunk," he insisted.

He was wrong. Ivan Helguera and Guti did their talking on the pitch as Real made it through, before defeating arch-rivals Barcelona in the semis and Bayer Leverkusen in the final to claim the crown in Glasgow.
