The worst goalscorers in the 21st century

Playing a major role in the team's disappointing run of form, goalscoring has hit an all-time low at Real Madrid. It's the first time the team's top striker has scored just four times after 17 fixtures.

16 points and just as many goals stand between Barcelona and Real Madrid in La Liga. While Valverde's men have found the back of the net 46 times, Zidane's squad has lacked a key player and has struggled to put together 32 goals in domestic competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo not at his best, Zidane is placing all his eggs in one basket: the Champions League. The 'Blancos' have capitulated in their bid to retain La Liga title with over half of the competition still to be played.

This comes as no surprise when taking into account that no Real Madrid players are among the top 25 goalscorers of the top tier of Spanish football. Ronaldo, Bale, Isco and Asensio, Madrid's four most prolific scorers, have only managed to find the back of the net four times each this season, far worse than Ronaldo Nazario's seven goals in 2002/03 and any other register in the 21st century.

Cristiano Ronaldo's form is cause for concern at the Bernabeu with the Portuguese striker losing 85 per cent of his scoring in La Liga. In the 2014/15 season, he had 26 goals to his name, 22 more than in the current term.

But the Portuguese ace is not the only player who is struggling to make goals, with fellow striker Karim Benzema well below-par at the start of this season.
