Despite Barca's stunning start to the La Liga season this term, there is a precedent and it serves as a warning to the Catalans...

Barcelona and Real Madrid are experts in putting together stunning runs of form. As a result, both sides have put together some impressive starts to the season over the years, just as Barca have this term, only with mixed results.

Whilst Real started the 1991/92 season with 11 wins and a draw, Barca did so in both 2012/13 and 2013/14.

On the three occasions (apart from this season) that a team has started in such a manner, only once has the side in question gone on to win the title. The team in question? Tito Vilanova's Barca side during the 2012/13 campaign.

The following season, Barca started like a house on fire once again, under 'Tata' Martino this time, but their form dropped like a lead balloon during the second half of the campaign.

Furthermore, back when La Liga was still only two points for a victory, Real started the 1991/92 campaign in fine fashion, only for Barca to snatch the title on the final day.

Should Real require any motivation in their bid to get back into they title race they need look no further, whilst Barca will be keen to avoid another season of early promise but ultimate failure.
