Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez made the most of this week's Champions League games as he watched two of the club's targets in action. He first travelled to Madrid to monitor Harry Kane, then to Lisbon to watch Anthony Martial, according to Spanish publication 'Mundo Deportivo'.

Barcelona are still in the market for forwards. With Paco Alcacer more than likely to depart the club in the near future, the Catalan giants are scouting various players to take over the No 9 role as they look to provide competition for Luis Suarez, who has started the seasons at a lower level than is normally expected of him.

That is why Robert Fernandez went to watch Harry Kane in action at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday. The Spurs striker is one of the most sought-after players in Europe at the moment and at the Camp Nou they see him as a viable option for their attack. That may be so, but they will have to fight with eternal rivals Real Madrid for his signature.

However, he is not the only forward they have taken a liking to. Anthony Martial is another player which Fernandez scouted during this week's Champions League matches. He travelled from Madrid to Lisbon to watch the clash between Benfica and Manchester United to see how the 21-year-old forward played in the final 15 minutes of the match. He came on for Marcus Rashford and was very lively on the left side of United's attack.

The Red Devils striker is not getting as much game time as he would like at Old Trafford and, according to the aforementioned source, he would be open to a change of scenery. That being said, it is worth remembering that United paid over £50m for him just two summers ago, so any transfer would probably come at a hefty price.

Fernandez, who is far from the media focus following the arrival of Guillermo Amor on the Barcelona board, is working harder than ever to help Barca get the most competitive squad possible.
