The Copa American will be disputed in Brazil this year and will feature the novelty of having two teams from outside of South America competing. Qatar and Japan are set to make up the numbers and compete in the tournament organised by CONMEBOL.

South American football's governing body CONMEBOL confirmed the two guest sides to feature in this year's Copa America.

The two non South American-based sides included in the 12-nation tournament are Japan and Qatar due to CONMEBOL's close links with the Asian Football Confederation.

Japan

It is Japan's second time playing in the tournament. The nation have previously played in the Copa America, in 1999.

Qatar

Qatar, who are preparing to host the 2022 World Cup, will feature in the tournament for the first time.

The Copa America will be played between June 14 and July 7 next year
