The season-defining derby at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal and Chelsea lock horns on Sunday as they both seek a win to get their respective seasons on track.

On paper, Super Sunday's crunch clash at Stamford Bridge is an open encounter, with either side fighting for their options to claim all three points.

Arsene Wenger showed himself to be confident in stating that the Gunners could overcome Chelsea, while Antonio Conte relieved pressure by saying that 'anything could happen' against Arsenal who could still 'fight for the title'.

But Wenger's and Conte's pre-match tactics and manoeuvres do not mean both sides go into the game level pegging. The match has a clear favourite and it is undeniable that an Arsenal win would be deemed as an upset for the Blues whose upturn in form in recent weeks has once again made them favourites to claim the title.

This is not to say that the tie is not equally important for both sides. It is, pivotal, but for different reasons.

Arsenal are chasing what has already been described as a 'season-changing' win at Stamford Bridge. A dismal start to the campaign by the standards the crowd at the Emirates have become accustomed to means Wenger's men are compelled to avoid defeat in the London derby to avoid a full-scale crisis.

To do so, they will have to put up a fight. Nothing would pain the Arsenal fanbase more than witnessing another spineless performance from their team. It will be the only way to overcome a Chelsea side on the rise.

Putting their hiccup in the Premier League opener behind them, Chelsea are looking as powerful as ever. Conte has brought back the aggression to his side to compete on all fronts.

Alvaro Morata is in form for the Blues, who have managed to maintain last season's solid structure. Chelsea will chase a crucial win to continue their good run after the Burnley blip, with one clear goal in mind for Conte: to get their title bid back on track.

While Chelsea's perilous form sets them up to overpower the Gunners at home, the outcome in their last two encounters must not be overlooked. Organised and compact displays in the FA Cup final and Community Shield earned the Gunners two huge wins against their city rivals, and Wenger will recall the tactics employed in both clashes.

Conte, on the other hand, will look to surprise his French counterpart in order to avoid surprises. Neither side will want to throw in the towel at this early stage, not in a clash with the potential to define their season.
