Diego Costa, striker for Atletico Madrid, was sent off in the Camp Nou. Supposedly for serious insults aimed at referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

While we wait for more camera angles to emerge, the cameras caught Gil Manzano explaining to the Atletico players that he had sent off Diego Costa because he had insulted his mother.

The referee's match report for Barcelona-Atletico sas the following: "Saying to me out loud: "¡¡Me cag* en tu put* madre!!" (F*** your mother) on two occasions

The match report indicates that Diego Costa, who was sent off after 28 minutes, will receive a severe punishment. Even Gerard Pique had to step in to prevent things from escalating. In the same document, Manzano says that Costa grabbed him on various occasions to stop him showing cards to any of his teammates.

Koke was upset with the refereeing post game and Simeone was raging in the post match press conference. Diego Costa, according to radio station 'COPE' had told his teammates he did not insult the referee and said "mi put* madre" instead of *tu". Literally, he would be insulting his own mother, a common Spanish curse for expressing anger and frustration, and that he was saying it to himself. That is what he is basing his defence on.
