Chelsea's front line currently boasts the likes of Alvaro Morata or Michy Batshuayi, but Antonio Conte is keen to bolster his attacking ranks by signing a sharp shooter in January.

The reigning Premier League champions currently sit nine points beind this season's leaders Manchester City, who have scored 38 goals in 11 games compared to Chelsea's 20.

To keep tabs on the runaway leaders, Antonio Conte is determined to bring in a world-class forward to form a clinical strike partnership with Alvaro Morata, while inevitably spelling the end for Michy Batshuayi.

After rumours emerged of an approach for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, Italian publication 'GOL' revealed that Conte has decided on Mauro Icardi, and will attempt to prize the Argentine away from the San Siro in the winter transfer window.

The Inter captain has scored 86 goals in 155 appearances for the Serie A outfit, finding the net every 97 minutes this season. Conte has told the Chelsea hierarchy to meet his £88 million release clause to bring him to Stamford Bridge, a player that could reignite the Blues' title hopes.
