The £177m deal that could bring a Real Madrid star to Old Trafford
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is preparing to break the club's transfer window with a £177 million bid for a player who has been a pivotal figure in Real Madrid's success.
United's Portuguese manager continues to build his team at Old Trafford. He has already identified his next target and is preparing a move which would break the club's existing record set by the £89 million signing of Paul Pogba in the summer of 2016.
The player in question is Marco Asensio, who is widely regarded as the future of football in Spain and the rest of Europe. Real Madrid offered the 21-year-old an ironclad contract to deter potential suitors, but it has not stopped Mourinho from reaching out to Asensio personally over a change of scene.
The Red Devils would be prepared to pay the £177 million required to secure the youngster's services, according to Spanish outlet 'Don Balon', while also offering him a staggering €27m (£24m) a season or £461,000-a-week, to put pen to paper on a five-year deal.
