The ex-player, Bert Konterman, could have played for Real Madrid because the club were really interested and even made a good offer to Feyenoord, but everything stopped because the player didn't know how to speak Spanish.

Bert Konterman spent time at clubs such as Willem II, Feyenoord, Rangers, and Vitesse at the end of his career. During his career, the defender had the chance to play for Real Madrid, according to what he told the podcast 'Talkin Fitbaw'.

"Madrid offered $20 million to Feyenoord. I told Beenhakker no and that he was joking. He told me he wanted me to stay in the team, but that he understood if I wanted to go to Real Madrid",

But Bert Konterman decided to make the manager's wish a reality and rejected the offer. "I always thought my next team should have been in Germany or Britain because I spoke German and English so well. In Spain, I was a bit scared".

The ex-defender explained that he was nervous about learning Spanish and that at that moment he didn't see himself ready to take the leap to Real Madrid, although he confessed that he regrets it.

"Then it was kind of stupid of me because they were really interested. I kept all the newspaper articles in case anyone doesn't believe it."
