Fresh from scoring his 100th goal in European competitions, Lionel Messi has already set his sights on yet another record...

The Barca star is now just five goals away from becoming the top scorer in Europe's top five leagues.

Since making his debut during the 2004/05 season, Messi has scored 360 goals in 390 games in La Liga, a record bettered only by 'Der Bomber' Gerd Muller.

The German scored 365 goals in 427 games for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga between 1966 and 1979, but Messi is now hot on his heels.

Muller is no doubt sick of the sight of Messi, with the Argentine having already broken his record for the most goals scored in a calendar year by netting 91 in 2012, some six more than Muller's previous record (85).

There is no doubt at all that Messi will go on to break Muller's record, the only question that remains is when and knowing Messi, there is every possibility that he could manage it before the next international break in early November.

Barca's next game is against basement boys Malaga, with Messi no doubt looking to fill his boots against a side lacking in any sort of confidence. That game is followed up by matches against Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla as the Argentine goes in search of just six more goals to write himself into the history books once again.
