The president of the European Clubs Association (ECA), Andrea Agnelli, reaffirmed this Tuesday in Amsterdam, the European's clubs refusal to participate in the Club World Cup proposed by FIFA.

"We have been very clear with FIFA. We all agree that, the Club World Cup which has been proposed by FIFA is unsatisfactory," said Agnelli. "More details are needed before commiting to a project. If we are to buy into it, we need all the information," said the president of the ECA, who celebtrated their 22nd General Assembly on Monday and Tuesday in the Dutch city.

Agnelli said that the clubs and not FIFA are the ones who make investments in the long run, in infrastructure. The new Club World Cup format was approved on 15th March in Miami and is due to start in June and July 2021.

"They propose a competition which could make sense at a global level, but we are not clear at all with the way it is presented at the moment," said the Italian, reaffirming the red light from the ECA to this new-look tournament.

FIFA, despite opposition from the ECA, confirmed that the 24 team Club World Cup would go ahead. In the FIFA vote, only Alexsander Ceferin, the UEFA president, voted against it
