The beginning of dreams

Leganes and Real Madrid are set to face off in La Liga on Wednesday, in a tie which brought the 'Peperinos' glory not long ago and helped the Spanish giants to grow as they turned their attentions to the Champions League.

In January, Leganes shockingly eliminated Madrid from the Copa del Rey to take the La Liga outfit into the semi-final stage for the first time in the club's history. The visitors thoroughly deserved the triumph after coming out all guns blazing at the Bernabeu to stifle a 'White' attack consisting of some of the best players on the planet.

For the home side, it was another bump in a disappointing season which had seen them reduced to only one real opportunity of silverware through the Champions League.

However, despite Leganes' success, they couldn't maintain the momentum in the semi-final clash with Sevilla. It was a valient effort though, and should still serve as a warning to Zinedine Zidane's team, who have experienced a change in fortunes since the unbelievable defeat.

Cristiano Ronaldo is back banging in goals left, right and centre - although he won't travel to Leganes after being rested by his head coach - and Madrid look like a team to be feared again after dispatching Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 in the first leg of their European Round of 16 tie on February 14.

Nonetheless, it will still be an interesting encounter between the two sides when they face off at the Butarque on Wednesday. Leganes will want to inflict another defeat for Zidane, which they have yet to do in the league, while Madrid want to continue in their fine form as they look to maintain momentum leading up to the return leg with PSG in March.
