The 10 oldest national teams in the world
We take advantage of the international break to bring you this list with the 10 oldest national teams which exist. Proof that love for football is not something recent.
Switzerland
One of the oldest teams which exists is the Swiss side. It was formed in 1895!
Argentina
The 'Albiceleste' has been competing since 21st February 1893, when the Argentinian Football Association (AFA) was founded.
Singapore
The Singapore side dates back to 29th August 1892.
New Zealand
The New Zealand national team was founded in 1891. On 8th October to be precise.
Holland
Another of the great national teams that was created in the early days was the Dutch one. The 'Oranje' was created back in 1889.
Denmark
The Danish Football Union (DFU) has the honour of being the oldest non-British association in the world. It begun in May 1889.
Northern Ireland
It was founded in 1880 and is one of the oldest in the world.
Wales
In 3rd position lies Wales. Its association dates back to 2nd February 1876.
Scotland
The Scots have the privilege of being the second oldest in the world. It was created on 13th March 1873.
England
England is the oldest national team in the world. The English national team was founded more than 150 years ago in 1863!
