Aston Villa new boy John Terry says that he is targeting promotion with the club this season.

The Chelsea legend has only ever really known success and he is hoping to continue in the same vein with his new club.

Terry told 'Sky Sports News': "It's exciting for me playing in front of 45 thousand fans. It's a new chapter for me.

"Our vision is to get promoted back to the Premier League. This club belongs in the Premier League. The stadium, facilities, the squad we've got, the manager - everything's in place. But we still need to perform on the pitch.

"We have a vision: the players, myself and the manager, to get up like everyone else."

When asked about his ambition for the season, there was no doubt in his mind.

"I want to lift the trophy but there will be six or seven other clubs who will have the same ambitions," he explained.

"But we know it's not going to be easy or that we'll run away with it. But we have the mental toughness, experience, and a lot of good young players."

The 36-year-old was not worried by suggestions that his body will struggle to cope with the increased workload in the second division, saying: "I'm ready. Shouldn't be a problem. I've had a career playing 60-65 games in a season anyway."

Will Aston Villa win promotion this season? They certainly possess a squad full of Championship quality but games are not won on paper.
