With Real Madrid in the lead, Luis Suarez made the most of Navas' challenge in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Messi stepped up to level the scoring.
The Uruguayan striker went around Keylor Navas and went to ground simulating a penalty. The Real Madrid men were appealing for a yellow card, but the referee awarded a penalty.
Messi levelled from the spot, sending Navas the wrong way and giving his side hope.
