Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has decided he must leave the club at his first opportunity as he looks to salvage his World Cup dream.

The 28-year-old has come to the realisation that barring a spate of injuries he is not going to get the game time necessary to impress England boss Gareth Southgate enough at Anfield and believes that his career would be best served by a move away.

Sturridge has not featured in either of Liverpool's last two games, despite scoring in their two previous encounters, that combined with Southgate's decision to drop him for the recent friedlies against Germany and Brazil due to insufficient game time have made the striker's mind up, something that looks set to lead to a January bidding war.

There is no doubting the former Manchester City and Chelsea man's ability, with the forward one of England's most gifted strikers on his day. The problem though is his availability, with Sturridge's Anfield career having been blighted by injuries.

English publication 'The Mirror' reports that Liverpool will place a realistic price tag on the player and may even sanction a loan deal as Sturridge looks to ensure he is on the plane for next summer's World Cup in Russia.

Sturridge moved to Anfield from Chelsea in January 2013 and scored 35 goals in 45 games in a prolific first 18 months in the North-West. That form has not lasted though, with a series of injuries halting his momentum and seeing him hit just 27 more in 71 games in the last three years.
