Diving is fast becoming a scourge of the modern game, though one recent incident might leave football fans everywhere wondering if there is such a thing as karma afterall.

Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia is set to miss his country's last two World Cup qualifiers after he injured himself diving.

The incident happened when Doumbia was playing for Sporting Lisbon against Barcelona in the Champions League.

The striker threw himself to the ground as he tried to go past Barca defender Gerard Pique just before half-time and after landing in heap, leaving him embarrassed, booked and needing to be substituted.

Marc Wilmots, the Ivory Coast manager, has since confirmed that the player sustained a torn tendon during the incident and is now facing a two-month lay-off.

The loss will come as a huge blow to Wilmots, who is also expected to be without Wilfried Zaha, Max Gradel, Adama Traore, Jean Michael Seri, Gervinho and Wilfried Bony.

The Ivory Coast currently top Group C with seven points but know that either Morocco or Gabon could capitalise on any slip-up.
