Storm halts Benfica vs Chelsea with Blues leading late on
On Saturday, the Club World Cup last 16 clash between Benfica and Chelsea was suspended due to a storm alert. The match was stopped in the 86th minute with the Londoners leading 1-0.
The game, held at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, was interrupted five minutes from time as storm warnings were issued over the area.
Chelsea were ahead 1-0 thanks to a goal from Reece James in the 64th minute when the players were ordered off the pitch.
Despite only a few minutes remaining, the US protocol for outdoor sporting events requires a match to be suspended in the event of severe weather alerts.
