Tottenham produced a dominant display to brush off fellow Premier League club Swansea and secure their place in the FA Cup semi-final, thanks to a brace from Christian Eriksen and a first-half strike from Erik Lamela.

It was a perfect opportunity for both clubs to improve their chances of silverware this season, with a semi-final place at stake, but only one team turned up at the Liberty Stadium.

Spurs dominated the first-half in possession and chances, keeping hold of the ball for 77 per cent of the opening 45 minutes and found their breakthrough early on through their playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Danish midfielder received the ball in midfield and was allowed to run at goal by a cautious Swansea defence, who would live to regret their passivity.

As he approached the box, Eriksen switched feet before opening his body and curling it into the back of the net in front of a helpless Kristoffer Nordfeldt in the 11th minute.

The visitors then thought they had made it 2-0 ten minutes later. Eriksen played a beautiful ball to Son Heung-min, who controlled the ball well before smashing it into the back of the net.

However, the official waved his official flag and after a quick consultation with VAR, who deemed the images inconclusive, the on-field decision stood and Swansea were given a lifeline.

The 'Swans' continued to give Tottenham too much space though, failing to mount a serious attempt on goal and would punished again just before the break through Erik Lamela.

The Argentine picked the ball up deep in the Swansea half, ghosted past some statuesque defending and then neatly prodded the ball past a deeply-rooted Nordfelt to double Spurs' advantage

- Early second-half flurry -

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal must have let off a lot of steam during the break because the home side came out of the blocks quick in the second-half.

Michel Vorm, who had been untroubled up till then, was forced into a double save to deny a Martin Olsson long-range shot and then a Tammy Abraham rebound.

However, after that it was one-way traffic again as Spurs quality proved too much for a Swansea side who are stuck in a closely-contested relegation battle in the league.

The visitors would score a third through Eriksen, whose brace now gives him an impressive tally against Saturday's opposition - eight goals from ten meetings.

Lurking ominously on the edge of the box, the 26-year-old patiently waited for the ball to be teed up for him before lashing it through the crowded box and towards Nordfeldt, who poorly parried the ball down to his right, failing to keep it out of the net.

From then it was simply a procession, with all intensity zapped from the game. Tottenham went on to secure an easy passage to the semi-final stage and will now watch the remaining fixtures to see who they could face once the draw takes place after the conclusion of Chelsea's trip to Leicester on Sunday.
