England boss Gareth Southgate paid tribute to the performances of his players in the draws with Germany and Brazil, saying that little by little, the Three Lions are rebuilding their bond with the fans.

The former Middlesbrough manager dished out no fewer than six England debuts across the two games, but his young side held firm and did not ship a single goal against the two top ranked nations in the world.

Southgate believes that the performances have gone some way to rebuilding the bond between the team and the fans after the Wembley faithful jeered England during their victory over Slovenia last month.

"I hope the English public will see they gave everything," said Southgate.

"I would hope there's a little more of a connection, it feels like a little connection between supporters and the team."

Meanwhile, the England boss could not speak highly enough of the liges of Joe Gomez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who seized their opportunities with both hands.

"I think they've succeeded in changing the wind of public feeling," he explained.

"That's a huge credit for the way they've taken responsibility.

"They've shown belief, they've worked for each other and they've dug in.

"I know they're basic qualities but they're qualities we've been accused on not having in the past. They've shown them in abundance.

"We're showing people what youth development in our country can produce.

"We've given these guys the opportunity and we believe there are others coming through our youth systems.

"These guys have gone ahead and done really well. I'm enthused by that."
