Australia and Cameroon played out a 1-1 draw in St Petersburg.

The socceroos came from behind to claim a point in the group B clash but it remins to be seen if it will be enough for them to qualify for the semi-finals.

Cameroon had the better of the first half after growing into the game. The African side looked dangerous every time they went forward with Bassogog in particular looking dangerous on the right. The Cameroonians were clearly trying to exploit the space behind the Australian wing-backs and did so on several occasions. Clear-cut chances were at premium in the first half with the best efforts coming when Moukandjo burst away from his marker in midfield, played a one-two with aboubakar and fired low straight at Ryan and through Aboubakar’s half-volley which flew into the side netting after Australia failed to clear. Australia look tidy without ever really creating anything of note, Gersbach’s delivery from the left looked like it could create problems but his opportunities to deliver were scarce, whilst Rogic fired a free-kick harmlessly over the bar from the edge of the box. With the half drawing to a close the 'Lions' took the lead, a long ball over the top from Mabouka had too much on it for Aboubakar but not for Zambo Anguissa who got to the ball ahead of Degenbak and Ryan to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper to give Cameroon the lead at the break.

Australia improved in the second half, going close with their first attack after Leckie did well to avoid what looked like a two-footed tackle from Teikeu down the right and race to the byline, his pull back was perfect for Tomi Juric who, on the penalty spot, took a touch before firing harmlessly over. Camereoon then had arguably the chance of the game but Vincent Aboubakar couldn't take advantage, he slid the ball wide with the goal gaping after great work fro Bassogog down the right hand side. They were made to regret the miss just seconds later when Mabouka brought down Gersbach in the box for a penalty. Australia captain Mark Milligan stepped up and guided the ball into the bottom left corner, just away from the outstretched hand of Fabrice Ondoa. From then on Cameroon arguably had the better chances with Aboubakar missing another decent chance after a cross from Bassogog before heading just over.

All in all, Cameroon arguably shaded the game but their profilgacy in front of goal cost them. My man of the match was Christian Bassogog, the right winger looked a danger every time he got the ball and everything good that the 'Lions' did going forward went through him. Though Andre Zambo Anguissa also deserves an honourable mention, the Marseille midfielder covered every blade of grass and opened the scoring for his side.
