According to the Italian press, Smalling's continuity at Roma is complicated due to United's high economic expectations and the players' demands.

Chris Smalling (30) is on loan at Roma from Manchester United and wants to remain at the Italian side, but he's got it tough.

According to ''Il Messagero', it is difficult for Roma to buy the player because the Red Devils are asking for a high amount, especially taking into account the coronavirus crisis.

To the 20 million euros that United want, you have to add the defender's demands, who wants a 3-year contract and a 3 million a season salary.

The Italian press assured that Rome had already agreed a loan extension with the English club, as the deal ends on 30th June and the competition will not have finished then.

Roma will have to decide if they want to execute the option to buy, but according to the aforementioned source, Roma's sporting director, Petradi, is now thinking about Vertonghen as an alternative amidst the difficulty of keeping Smalling, who has played 28 games for Roma.
