Diego Pablo Simeone made history at Atletico Madrid last week and, according to 'El Periodico', he will continue for one more season. The Argentine coach will lower his salary and end his contract in June 2024.

Girona and Atletico Madrid will meet in a match in which Memphis Depay and Antoine Griezmann are expected to be in the spotlight. The 'Colchoneros' have never won at Montilivi, so Cholo Simeone's side will be going for a victory that would be historic.

The Argentinian coach has also been in the news this Monday. According to 'El Periódico', the 'Colchonero' coach will lower his salary and end his contract in June 2024.

The same media outlet reported that Simeone will cut his salary from 20 million euros to 16.5 million euros to help the club in a difficult financial moment and reaffirms his commitment for at least one more season.

Atletico are currently on a roll. Eight consecutive unbeaten games, with five wins in the last seven, see Atletico on their best run of the season, with the irregularity of the first half of the season now behind them.

"There is a search and a way that the team, in the last two or three months, began to feel more comfortable and more confident. From there, whoever comes in knows what they have to do," he said in the press conference prior to the match against Girona.
