Following the controversial refereeing of the first leg, UEFA has announced its refereeing appointments for the decisive clash between Manchester United and Athletic Club. German referee Daniel Siebert will take charge of the match at Old Trafford.

German referee Daniel Siebert has been appointed by UEFA to referee Thursday's Manchester United-Athletic Club match at Old Trafford Stadium at 21.00 CET.

Siebert will be joined by fellow countrymen Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn as linesmen, Tobias Stieler as fourth official and Christian Dingert and Soren Storks on VAR.

Born in Berlin 41 years ago and an international since 2015, he has already refereed Manchester United at Old Trafford in the 2022-23 Europa League, a match the English side settled with a 4-1 win over Real Betis, and Athletic he has yet to whistle for.

This season he has refereed in the Champions League matches such as PSG-Girona, Sporting-Manchester City, Arsenal-Dinamo Zagreb, Juventus-PSV Eindhoven, and in the Europa League the Roma-Braga and Lazio-Bodo Glimt games. In all of them, the home teams won.

At international level, he has refereed matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and at the 2020 and 2024 European Championships, the Nations League and even the Arab Cup.
