Sheringham believes Man Utd have lost 'scare factor'
The former Red Devil believes the current team is a shadow of its former self
Teddy Sheringham has criticised Manchester United's current team, claiming they no longer possess the 'scare factor' which United used to intimidate opponents with.
Sheringham enjoyed a successful spell with the club, and notoriously scored in the intense Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in 1999.
Sir Alex Ferguson's teams used to intimidate their opposition, however, under Van Gaal they seem to have lost this ability according to the 50-year-old.
"When you are not firing on all cylinders, you have to get results and that's what Van Gaal has done very well this year, " he said on Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday.
"They are not really playing with the flamboyance of a Manchester United team. It's not what you expect. Funnily enough I used Leicester as an example years ago when they were one of the struggling teams in the Premier League.
"If we went to Leicester and it was 0-0 with five minutes to go then the Leicester fans would have been absolutely delighted to hold Manchester United to a draw. It doesn't have that same kind of feel at the moment.
"They don't have that scare factor. Manchester United are not walking into town and saying: "We are coming to rip you apart and you will do well to hang on to us".
"It's a type of thing where you can go to Old Trafford and get a result which is not the Manchester United feeling.
"The feeling always was we will blow you out the water. You cannot stay with us, that was the ethic Sir Alex Ferguson had. It's OK but Manchester United must do better than that."
