Lionel Messi's opening goal in the 2015 Copa del Rey final was so impressive that it is still the subject of discussion, debate and expert analysis some 18 months later...

The goal in question was chosen as the best in Barca's modern history by readers of Catalan publication 'Sport', nominated for the 2015 Puskas Award and now it has been the subject of scientific study.

The Argentine star left opposition players in his wake with ease before firing past a helpless Iago Herrerin at his near post in a tantalising display of footballing brilliance.

According to the study, Messi ran 55 meters in 11.4 seconds, going from sationary to 32 km/h in just 2.7 seconds all whilst having the ball under control, before slowing down, beating three opponents with three touches in just 1.2 seconds before cutting inside a defender and hitting a shot that measured 77 km/h with just a 1.5mm margin for error.

Sounds quite impressive when you put it like that doesn't it?
