Following Tuesday's tragic scenes in Genoa as a bridge collapsed, Sampdoria have asked for their opening game of the Serie A season to be postponed.

Samp were due to kick off the season against Fiorentina in the city this weekend, but the club have requested that the game be put back to a later date.

A central section of a bridge carrying the A10 motorway collapsed on Tuesday, killing at least 39 people.

Captain Mimmo Criscito said: "Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the whole city of Genoa. We will be ready and do our part in this tragedy."

Genoa, who share a stadium with Sampdoria, play away against AC Milan, and will continue as scheduled.
