Venezuelan forward, Salomon Rondon has been handed the player of the season award at Newcastle United.

Rondon, 29, has been involved in nearly half the goals that Newcastle have scored this season, as Newcastle once again avoided the drop under Rafa Benitez. Rondon scored 10 goals and assisted 8 times.

He is the first forward to win the award at Newcastle since the great Alan Shearer won the award in the 2002-2003 season.

On loan at Newcastle from West Bromwich Albion after his parent club were relegated down to the Championship last season, Rondon took the award from club Captain, Jamaal Lascelles and joins an exclusive list containing the likes of Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, Lee Clark, Andy Cole and Nobby Solano, as well as the great Shearer.

Rondon is keen on staying at Newcastle this season, as he wants to stay in the Premier League, although West Bromwich Albion are in the Championship Play-Offs and may be returning to the top flight next season themselves. Newcastle end their season at Fulham, lying comfortably in 14th.
