Cristiano Ronaldo's confidence is well known. Despite his poor start to the season, the Real Madrid forward bet he would finish at the top of the goalscoring charts and he's making good on that promise.

"I will finish as the Pichichi," screamed Ronaldo in front of his 'Los Blancos' team-mates inside Madrid's dressing room: revealed by Jose Ramon de la Morena on the radio programme 'El Transistor' when the Portugal international had only scored one league goal.

From a 12-1 commanding lead to Lionel Messi, it has gone to 25-22 in the space of a few months though. Ronaldo has been unstoppable since the new year, even bringing home a four-goal haul to steer Madrid to a 6-3 victory over Girona on Sunday.

He is still three behind his rival, although Ronaldo's goalscoring prowess of late suggests that the fight to Spain's Golden Boot will go down to the wire, especially considering the 33-year-old has scored 17 goals in his last eight appearances (in La Liga and the Champions League).

Although it won't be easy for the Portuguese striker, given that Messi too is in rich vein of form, adding to his total against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend. One thing is for certain, it's going to be an incredible battle to watch...
