In the second half of the game between Roma and Napoli, referee Gianluca Rocchi, stopped the contest for several minutes because of chants against Napoli. There was also racist chanting against Kalidou Koulibaly.

In the 68th minute, there were chants against the Neopolitans. These discriminatory chants against other regions are frequent in Italy and Rocchi did not hesitate to stop the match.

Despite the warnings from the referee, the hardcore Roma fans continued with their chants and insults. Rocchi took a firm stance against this and halted the encounter.

Edin Dzeko, the Roma captain, asked the fans to applaud and cheer to drown out the offensive chanting. Dzeko's teammates also did the same

In addition, there were monkey chanting and sounds of "buuu" aimed at Koulibaly. The central defender complained to Rocchi.

In Italy they have deciided to clamp down on this type of behaviour. The experienced official wanted to nip it in the bud quickly. Roma won the contest 2-1.
