Rodrygo was one of the standout performers in Real Madrid's training session on Wednesday, which was exclusively for substitutes and players who did not feature against Osasuna.

Brazilian international Rodrygo Goes, who did not play a single minute in Real Madrid's first official match of the season against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu, led the return to work for Xabi Alonso's squad on Wednesday, with their sights set on the trip to Real Oviedo.

The starters from the narrow 1-0 victory that kicked off Real Madrid's campaign were given a rest day upon their return to training at the Valdebebas training complex.

The substitutes, along with Antonio Rudiger – who was unavailable against Osasuna due to an outstanding suspension from last season after his red card in the Copa del Rey final, which the Merengues lost 3-2 to F.C. Barcelona – trained with intensity.

Alongside the German centre-back, who could be a new face in Xabi Alonso's next squad list, Dani Carvajal, Franco Mastantuono, Gonzalo Garcia, and Dani Ceballos, who all featured at different stages of the second half of the opening league fixture, plus Fran Garcia, Raul Asencio, David Alaba and Rodrygo, also took part in the session.

After an initial session in the gym involving activation work and muscle strength training, the players took part in a ten-a-side match, with the group bolstered by a significant number of academy prospects. Following this, they practised offensive plays and shooting.

Alonso still awaits the return of any of his four injured players. Ferland Mendy and Endrick are now running on the grass and beginning their return to pitch work; Jude Bellingham continues his recovery plan in the gym after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder, and Eduardo Camavinga is aiming to shorten his recovery time after suffering an ankle sprain ten days ago.

Real Madrid will have a rest day on Thursday. From Friday, at 10:30 AM behind closed doors at their training complex, the Merengues' manager will bring all available players together to begin finalising tactical details for the visit to Real Oviedo.

The clash between Oviedo, newly promoted to the First Division and who lost their debut last weekend against Villarreal (2-0), and Real Madrid will take place on Sunday the 24th at 9:30 PM.
