The restart of Uruguayan football could be delayed one more week. A new outbreak in Montevideo puts the match between Nacional and Peñarol on 8th August in danger, which could be delayed until the 14th of the same month.

The return of football in Uruguay is marked in the calendar for the 8th August, a date that could end up being delayed again due to a new outbreak in Montevideo in the last few hours.

The awaited head to head between Nacional and Peñarol could be in danger because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has reportedly led to an increase in cases in the Uruguayan capital.

That is what the Uruguayan newspaper 'Ovación' assures, which informs that the plan of the country's footballing authorities is to delay the football restart again until the 14th August of the same month, i.e. a week later.

The Apertura de Uruguay was temporarily suspended just after it started, when the matches from matchday three on the weekend of 9th March were played. At that time, Rentistas were top of the league with 9 points thanks to them winning all their matches.
