According to reports in French publication 'L'Equipe', PSG are set to deploy youngster Presnel Kimpembe alongside Marquinhos at the back for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Real Madrid, with Thiago Silva set to miss out.

The news is by far the most surprising to have emerged ahead of the game, with the French giants seemingly set to drop the experienced Silva in place of youngster Kimpembe.

After missing out against Toulouse, the Brazilian was considered a nailed-on starter for the clash of the giants at the Bernabeu, but it now appears he will have to make do with a place on the bench.

Interestingly, it was Marquinhos and not Silva who accompanied PSG boss Unai Emery to his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, an early hint as to who would be marshalling the back line in the Spanish capital.

Marquinhos is expected to captain the French side in the absence of his compatriot and veteran midfielder Thiago Mottta, though 'L'Equipe' also claimed that the PSG squad were unaware of the decision to pick Kimpembe over Thiago Silva.

Who is Presnel Kimpembe?

The young defender is one of the latest products of the PSG production line. Kimpembe made his debut at just 19, but it took him until the 2015/16 season to really start making waves.

His breakthrough campaign came last season as he played 28 games, becoming Emery's go-to man in the absence of Marquinhos and Thiago Silva.

This season, despite the expectations surrounding the club, Emery has continued to give Kimpembe chances in the team, with the 22-year-old having played 24 games and almost the same number of minutes as the more experienced Silva this term.

At 33, Thiago Silva is no longer the player that he was when at his peak. The Samba star has been guilty of some significant errors so far this campaign, meaning that Emery's decision to play Kimpembe could simply be down to adding a certain robusteness to the PSG defence.

It is also worth remembering that Kimpembe started and played all 90 minutes a year ago as PSG thumped Barcelona 4-0 in Paris. Aftermissing the return fixture at the Camp Nou, the youngster may have his chance at revenge against the competition's reiging Champions.
