Refereeing decisions leave Liverpool lost

After the game between Manchester United and Liverpool finished 2-1 to the home side at Old Trafford, much of the talk centred on referee Craig Pawson and the decisions that he did not give to Liverpool.

The 'Reds' had three shouts for a penalty turned down including a challenge on Sadio Mane late in the game that looked particularly illegal. In addition, it appears that both Antonio Valencia and match-winner Marcus Rashford were lucky to escape red cards.

Rashford was cautioned for a challenge on James Milner after he had twice scored, but after the first goal he ran into the crowd - an obvious bookable offence. Craig Pawson inexplicably elected not to show him a yellow card and he therefore escaped justice later in the game.

The decision that will grate the most is that on Mane though. With Liverpool trailing by one following Eric Bailly's own goal, Sadio Mane was played into the box. Marouane Fellaini clattered the Senegalese man with little attempt to play the ball, yet again Pawson decided to wave play on. Replays show clear contact, inside the box, and a penalty should have been given.
