In the pre-season match between America and Chelsea, Reece James scored a surreal own goal. He passed the ball to his teammate Bettinelli, but the goalkeeper had gone to the side of the goal so the ball rolled into the back of the net. The Mexicans were gifted an equaliser in bizarre fashion.

The first pre-season games are always to get game time so mistakes can be expected, but the howler Reece James made was still a bad one. He scored a crazy own goal during Chelsea's friendly with America.

The Blues were 1-0 up when the Mexicans got an equaliser thanks to James. He passed the ball back to Bettinelli, but the goalkeeper was expecting a pass to the right of his goal. However, James passed it in the middle and the ball went into the empty net.

The reaction of his teammates, in fact, of three of them, was to put their hands to their head. Cesar Azpilicueta, who could start the season as a Barcelona player, was one of those who looked most disappointed. That said, it was just a friendly so nothing was at stake.

In addition, Chelsea ended up winning the game thanks to a great goal by Mason Mount. The player control the ball in the D and hit home with a right footed shot to beat the goalkeeper and give the West Londoners victory.
