Real Madrid are still searching for a new home for James Rodriguez. It seems his two most likely suitors are Napoli and Atlético Madrid, with 'Los Blancos' preferring a move to the former, according to 'AS'.

After selling them midfielder Marcos Llorente this window, Real Madrid would rather avoid further strengthening their neighbours Atlético this summer.

For this reason, according to 'AS', Real would prefer that James goes to Napoli and not Atleti. In Italy, former boss Carlo Ancelotti awaits him with open arms and has asked the club to do all they can to bring him over.

However, there does seem to be a sticking point: Napoli want James on loan, whilst Madrid are looking to sell the player permanently.

This is where Atlético may enter the fray, as they are planning to make an offer to buy the Colombian from their city rivals.

Real want 40 million Euros for James, and if the Italian club are willing to meet this valuation then Naples will be the midfielder's next destination, which is what club president Florentino Pérez would prefer.

It remains to be seen if Atleti do indeed make a concrete offer for the 27 year-old, although the idea of seeing him playing in red and white is no doubt something that would not go down well at the Santiago Bernabéu.

And, according to Colombian reports, the player himself now favours a switch to Real's cross-town rivals. This saga is far from over yet.
