The consequences of the astronomical fee paid by PSG for Neymar will continue to echo around the market for years to come, and big clubs have begun to protect their prized assets.

Any transfer fee is within the realms of possibility, with the new financial shift in football meaning no team is guaranteed retaining its stars.

A perfect example is Neymar's move to Paris Saint-Germain. His release clause was deemed unpayable, and Barcelona were reluctant to sell their star. However, the French giants prised the Brazilian away from the Camp Nou with relative ease.

The move has set a precedent. The Catalan side were rendered helpless by the economic prowess of the Qatar-funded Parisians. In an attempt to avoid falling victim to a similar situation, Real Madrid have decided to offer one of their stars an ironclad contract.

Zinedine Zidane's side have slapped a whopping £640m (€700m) release clause on Isco, following stellar performances from the 25-year-old Spaniard.

European football's elite are growing wary of having their stars taken from under their noses and, with the situation poised to increase, financial uncertainty oversees the world of football.
