Real Madrid make no mistake and it is now their title to lose

A lively start to the fixture promised an open game as both teams looked to get in behind each other's defence. Chances came at both ends with neither side settling on the ball before Ronaldo fired Real Madrid in front.

Marcelo played Isco into space, and the former Malaga man lost possession at the edge of the box only for the ball to fall straight to Ronaldo. The Portuguese ace took a touch, lifted his head, and let fly a powerful strike into the corner of the net.

A goal of vital importance for Zidane's team, who seemed to take a step back after that, allowing a liberated Celta to try and cause an upset. Keylor Navas dealt well with a free kick from Daniel Wass before Aspas twice blazed his efforts wide.

The pressure began to mount for the visitors as Berizzo's team appealed for a penalty after Varane looked to handle the ball, but the repeat showed the defender was just outside the penalty area, in any case.

Real Madrid appeared to put the game out of reach when they doubled their lead in the early minutes of the second half. Guidetti failed to score at one end, and Real were quick to break with Isco splitting the defence with an unstoppable run. The midfielder released Ronaldo with an inch-perfect pass, and the striker made no mistake to finish past Sergio Alvarez.

Things seemed to get even better for Zidane's side as Iago Aspas went down in the area and he received his second yellow card for simulation, despite apparent contact from Real captain Sergio Ramos. The match entered a chaotic stage with the referee granting yellow cards around, and Celta's assistant manager crossing the pitch to make it to the stands having been sent off.

However, it was Celta who scored next, Sisto pouncing onto a loose ball and finding Guidetti. The Swede went for the long shot, which bounced off Ramos and into the back of the net. Navas, despite pulling off some great saves, could do nothing. A minute later, Real Madrid reclaimed their two-goal lead, Marcelo drilling in a low cross for Benzema to side-foot into an open net.

The visitors did not hold back, as they pushed on for a fourth goal to really finish Celta off. Ronaldo had a chance to complete his hat-trick, but inexplicably fired wide when all he had to do was pick his spot from six yards.

More chances came for the away team, and a great Sergio Alvarez emerged in goal to avoid his team further humiliation. He saved efforts from Isco and Lucas Vazquez before Real Madrid finally got their fourth goal of the night.

Benzema found Kroos out wide in the box, and the German showed great composure to cut onto his right foot and slot the ball into the bottom corner of the near post.

Real Madrid move three points ahead of Barcelona, and a point at Malaga on the final day of the season would be enough to secure their first La Liga trophy since 2012.
