Gerard Pique might have said it is one of the worst Real Madrid sides he has ever faced in his career, but Zinedine Zidane's men will not be giving much more of a thought considering how huge this result could be for their title hopes.

Real Madrid's win puts them a point ahead of Barca at the top of La Liga and more important than the effect on the standings could be the psychological lift it gives Zinedine Zidane's team, who were on the brink of crisis after defeat by Manchester City in the Champions League.

It was a welcomed win after a four-year drought in Clasico glory.

After defeating Barcelona in El Clásico this past Sunday, Real Madrid is back in first place on the general table with odds at -140 per SportsBettingDime.

It seems the French coach got it right this time, setting Madrid up proactively with two holding midfielders and goalscorer Vinicius Jr and Fede Valverde out wide.

Two important events are just around the corner for the two title hopefuls. Next weekend, Real Madrid, now top of the standings with a one-point advantage - through goal average - will visit the Real Betis grounds, an always difficult stadium against a needy Real Betis, with many doubts the last few weeks.

Barcelona plays at home, but the morale after a loss to their biggest rivals could impact their performance against a difficult rival: Real Sociedad.

Still, Zinedine Zidane's men only lead by one point, which means Barcelona will take an opportunity to swoop in and take the lead. Both teams are facing six duels at home and six duels away, meaning the difficulty should be matched... And that a last-minute surprise could be in the books for what has been one of LaLiga's most disputed seasons in recent history.
