Sergio Ramos is clear. He wants Mbappe to stay at PSG. The former Real Madrid player, who wanted Mbappe to go to Real Madrid in the past, now wants him to stay at PSG. The defender explained that in a press conference with the Spanish media and talked about other things.
"Mbappe and Real Madrid? Madrid are one of the best clubs in the world, and with its history, the best, and the players, at some time in their lives, have to go there, but, right now, I want him in my team and we'd all like him to stay here," he said. He has yet to renew whereas Neymar has.
"I never dare to say what someone should do. From my experience, I could give him advice in private. I'd like him to stay at PSG because I like playing with the best. When one takes the decision to stay or leave, it's a very personal one. I don't know what Kylian has in mind, but he makes the difference, he's very young, here there's a very good team and they need the great players. I can contribute with my winning mentality and if I can pass that on, it will have been a success," he added.
When asked about how he will get on with the Brazilian and the Frenchman, he said: "It makes me happy to play with both of them. I've got a very good relationship with Neymar and Kylian is at a very high level. What I want is to win and we all have to go in the same direction. We're all on the right track." They will form a group full of quality and charisma.
And if Messi joins PSG? "Leo is one of the best in the world, but that doesn't depend on me. I could say a thousand things, but they aren't decisive. He's not within my reach, but obviously I like being around the best," Ramos said. The latest rumours suggest that will not be the case and that he will pen a new contract at Barcelona.
On the audios which have come to light of Florentino Perez criticising Real Madrid legends like Iker Casillas and Raul, the defender remained non-committal. "I'm keeping totally out of it. I'm not getting into anything to do with Real Madrid and Florentino because I don't want to create controversy. I'm not going to comment, I'm sorry."
Would he celebrate a goal against Real Madrid? "No, I'd never do it. They are in my heart and they deserve that respect. I wouldn't celebrate it, not even a win, because they don't deserve that and fans don't either." He also talked about another team he knows well, the Spain national team: "It's very sad not being with the national team and I really miss it. I'd have loved to be there and I'll keep working to perform at my best to try and get back as soon as possible because it's something that still exists me."
When asked whether Real Madrid did everything possible to renew him, he responded: "Looking back is always a mistake, I like adventure. The priority was to come to a big club and how they treated me was key. Going out of your comfort zone is good for everyone. I'm very happy with the decision I've made."
That said, playing against 'Los Blancos' "is thinking too far ahead, I'm only thinking about performing at the highest level and bringing my experience. I'm here to start from scratch. I'm not coming as a champion, but to add to this great team. I'm not thinking about playing against Madrid now. Let's hope that it's a great year. We'll see what happens. Real Madrid will always be in my heart."
More generally, he said: "I've had a wonderful era at Real Madrid, many years, and I'll remember all the nice things that happened there and it's sad to leave a place which has given you so much. But I'm coming to a magnificent club, I'm very happy, I'm integrating and I'm brave. I like challenges and I want to keep on winning here. I'm looking forward to making history and I've come to the ideal club."
