Real Madrid followed Barcelona's example to beat Deportivo in an 8-goal clobbering, to go level with the Catalans at the top of the table.

Real Madrid travelled to Riazor compelled to win after Barcelona cruised past Osasuna at the Camp Nou to go three points up with two games in hand.

Zidane was missing some key players, due to injury, suspension or because of his decision to rest his players after 'El Clasico'. Real's starting lineup was missing players such as Navas, Ramos, Carvajal, Pepe, Modric, Casemiro or Kroos, as well as the 'BBC'.

So it was down to the less-regulars to show their worth and earn Zidane's trust, which they came out determined to do in what was arguably the best opening 20 minutes by Real Madrid all season.

They took the lead within the first minute, Isco finding Morata in space and the striker firing inside the near post to put his team in front. Far from slowing down, the visitors continued to pile on the pressure, hitting the post twice before James doubled their lead.

About halfway through the first forty-five minutes, Zidane's men eventually let up, allowing Deportivo to take a step forward. After a couple of warnings, Andone blasted home from six yards to cut the difference.

Real Madrid were taken aback by such a response and Deportivo spotted their opponents' weakness, as they eagerly looked for an equaliser. It was then that Isco danced his way around the defenders before finding Marcelo out wide. The left-back crossed for Vazquez to fire in close-range and restore the two-goal lead just before half time.

It was a slower tempo at the beginning of the second half, with Zidane probably trying to avoid the frantic, yet highly-entertaining pace of the first half. Real Madrid were patient in their build-up play and did not allow Deportivo to relieve the pressure. Finally, they put the game beyond reach as Morata pulled the ball back for James inside the box, and the Colombian scored his double.

Isco was dictating the pace of the game, and Madrid were playing some good football. Lucas found Isco at the back post, for the midfielder to finish past Tyton and get his goal before been substituted off.

Deportivo got a goal back after Joselu headed past Casilla to score yet another goal against his former team. Casemiro, having just come on to calm things down, decided to have a pop from outside the box, and Tyton was unable to save his low shot.

Real Madrid also got the job done, to go level at the top with Barcelona, who have a game more. Counting down the weeks and it is still as tight as it can be.
