In an incisive attacking move, Paul Pogba set the Englishman in on goal, and Rashford did the rest. His low drive beat Hugo Lloris, giving United the lead heading into the break.

Just when we thought that an entertaining half of football would end without a goal for either side, an opportunistic attacking move from visitors Manchester United, saw them take the lead before the interval. A poor attempted square pass from Tottenham's Trippier spelled immediate trouble for the hosts, as Jesse Lingard produced an acrobatic interception, to lay the ball off to team mate Paul Pogba.

From then, Pogba had the wherewithal to lift his head, and pick out the forward burst from winger Marcus Rashford on the far side of the pitch. The Frenchman found Rashford excellently with a sublime lofted pass, but after that, the goal was all down to the young Englishman. In demonstrating both composure and confidence on the ball, Rashford raced past covering defender Vertonghen, pushed the ball wide, before cutting his finish back across the advancing Lloris and into the far bottom corner of the net.

In truth, either side could have been ahead at the interval, with openings aplenty created during the opening 45 minutes of the encounter. However it was United that displayed the superior cutting edge required, and thus Solskjaer's side would be a goal to the good at the break.
