Sergio Ramos has issued a statement in response to Gerard Piqué, who called Arbeloa a “c**t” after Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Deportivo at the weekend.

The Barcelona defender was rather animated during the post-match interview, and took the time to take a swipe at his Spanish national teammate: “Arbeloa told me that we were friends, but I don’t consider him one, he is an acquaintance…a c**t.”

Real Madrid’s captain Sergio Ramos has held a firm line, and has asked that Piqué gives his ‘La Roja’ teammate the respect he deserves.

“I only have one thing to say to Piqué - from the point of view of the Spanish national team captain- is that he gives his teammates at Real Madrid and those within the profession a little respect. Lack of respect is an enemy to a good atmosphere within our camp, and we have to put aside all this nonsense."

With Euro 2016 just around the corner, it could develop into a rather worry and uncomfortable situation for the Spanish side. Del Bosque will be monitoring the situation closely, and will hope that it doesn't escalate and jeopardize Spain’s chances of winning the competition next year.
